ERWIN, N.C. (WTVD) -- Two people including a 5-week-old infant are dead and three people were injured following a crash in Harnett County on Friday.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP), emergency crews responded to calls about a crash involving a cement truck on US Highway 421 just after 1 p.m.
When emergency crews arrived, they found a cement truck that had overturned against a Dodge SUV.
The driver of the Dodge, 34-year-old, Kwmae Smith of Linden, was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said a 5-week-old baby in the Dodge was taken to the hospital and was later pronounced dead.
A 2-year-old in the back seat and another passenger were taken to the hospital with what officials described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers said the driver of the cement truck was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the NCSHP, an investigation found that the driver of the Dodge failed to stop at a stop sign on Prospect Church Road before driving into the path of the cement truck.
