Section of Olive Chapel Road in Apex will remain closed until January, NCDOT says

APEX, N.C. (WTVD) -- A section of a road in Apex damaged by heavy rainfall will remain closed until January 2026, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Plans are underway to repair the failed culvert on Olive Chapel Road between Ashely Downs Drive and Patterson Grove Road. The collapse of one of two metal pipes beneath the road led to erosion and instability, prompting its closure.

NCDOT plans to award a repair contract in late October, and utility crews are already on-site relocating lines. The department is also working with property owners to secure access for the project.

Officials are urging the public to stay away from the damaged area, as the pipe and pavement remain unsafe. Everyone should avoid the closed section.
