Durham Fire Department foster dog rescued from house fire

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Durham Fire Department has a temporary new addition to its family.

The crew of Ladder 3 is caring for Lexie, one of the two dogs rescued from a house fire on Monday morning.

The fire occurred near the intersection of Hugo Street and Cascadilla Street just after 11:30 a.m. Firefighters rescued one person along with Lexie and another dog. The individual was taken to a hospital by Durham County EMS. The fire was determined to be accidental, according to the fire department.

Our newsgathering partners the News & Observer reported Lexie's owner is in critical condition after the fire.

The fire department stated that Lexie will stay with them until a new home is found. She has taken a liking to Captain Whitfield and his family.
