Durham luncheon raises funds for Triangle programs, draws 400+ attendees
DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Over 400 people gathered in Durham as the Triangle Park (N.C.) Chapter of The Links Inc. hosted its annual White Rose Luncheon, raising money to support community programs across the region.
The event took place at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel and brought together community leaders, professionals and supporters focused on service and philanthropy.
The Links Inc. is a national volunteer service organization made up of professional women of color committed to friendship and community impact. Locally, the Triangle Park chapter leads initiatives centered on education, health and wellness, cultural enrichment and economic development. Its work includes scholarship programs, youth mentoring, health outreach and partnerships designed to strengthen underserved communities throughout the Triangle.
Organizers said the annual luncheon is one of the chapter's signature fundraisers, helping sustain year-round programming.
"We're going to have a good time, enjoy this lovely day and hopefully raise a lot of money to continue the programming that we have," said Chanda Douglas-Ward, president of the Triangle Park (N.C.) Chapter of The Links Inc.
Cynt Marshall delivered the keynote address. She is the former chief executive officer of the Dallas Mavericks and the first Black woman to serve as CEO in NBA history.
During her remarks, Marshall spoke about leadership and personal wellness, sharing her experience as a stage 3 colon cancer survivor. She credited healthcare providers in the Triangle with helping her through her diagnosis and treatment.
"You have to focus on your health -- physical, mental and spiritual," Marshall said. "All aspects of our health matter. ... If you're not physically, mentally and emotionally healthy, it's hard to lead people. You have to be a role model and have the stamina to be able to do it."
Proceeds from the luncheon will support ongoing service projects and outreach efforts led by the organization across central North Carolina.
