POLKTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- North Carolina taxpayers are paying three former inmates more than $62,000 for injuries they received while in prison.
The three inmates were among five being held at the Lanesboro Correctional Institution.
They sued after being stabbed by gang members.
The group claimed that prison guards opened locked doors, which allowed gang members to carry out violent attacks.
The five inmates were stabbed over a 10-month period in 2011 and 2012.
