GoTriangle adds 20 new buses, including electric and diesel models

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- GoTriangle is celebrating a fleet of new vehicles.

The transportation agency added 20 new rides, including 10 diesel buses, five electric buses, four light transit vehicles and three support vehicles. Officials say the additions help ensure riders have safe, modern and reliable options.

There is a working fleet of 74 buses, and the new 15 will replace older ones that are being decommissioned.

"These replacement vehicles allow us to transition from older buses that have served us well," said Chief of Operations Vinson Hines Jr. "In addition, the diesel buses are designed for lower emissions, while the BEBs feature zero emissions, meaning we are upgrading not just our fleet from a reliability standpoint, but also from a stewardship standpoint."

The new diesel buses feature more charging ports and rear door barrier shields for riders. Drivers also have an additional level of security with more robust barrier doors.

The funding for these new buses come from a mix of federal and county funding from Durham, Wake and Orange counties.

"These are necessary investments if we are to be our region's trusted mobility partner," said Hines. "Welcoming new vehicles goes a long way in accomplishing that."
