GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Guilford County Democratic Party has nominated High Point City Councilwoman Amanda Cook to fill the State House seat previously held by Representative Cecil Brockman.
Councilwoman Cook, who serves in an at-large seat on the council, will complete the remainder of Brockman's term, which runs through 2026.

Brockman resigned last month following charges of engaging in sex acts with a 15-year-old boy.
Police were called in to investigate the alleged crime after Brockman called 911, attempting to locate the teenager. The teen was later found and taken to a hospital, where he disclosed his relationship with Brockman to investigators.

As reported from documents obtained by ABC11 after Brockman's arrest, police seized the alleged victim's phone and found 14 videos of sexual acts. In two of them, the judge said Brockman's face was recognizable.
Those documents also revealed that Brockman and the 15-year-old met in May 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia, through a dating app. The two allegedly live together in an apartment in Georgia and moved to High Point in August.
Brockman was arrested after surveillance video showed him leaving his apartment with a packed suitcase and a white trash bag.
