
RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Raleigh Police Department (RPD) says a woman is facing charges after an early morning traffic accident involving a pedestrian that shut down lanes on I-440 for several hours.
Police were dispatched to a pedestrian hit around 3:50 a.m. on I-440 East between Wake Forest Road and Capital Blvd.
Investigators say the person was in the travel lane when he was hit by Tia Evans, 29. According to Raleigh Police, Courtney Mathis, 26, died after he was taken to the hospital by another driver who witnessed the accident.
Raleigh police say while investigating the accident and talking to Evans, officers observed "signs of impairment."
She was then arrested and charged with DWI and felony death by motor vehicle.
