Woman dies after she, child pulled from burning Fayetteville apartment

One person killed, another injured in Fayetteville apartment fire

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- An apartment fire in Fayetteville left a woman dead and a child critically injured Monday, authorities said.

It happened at the Kensington Court Apartments in the 6400 block of Yadkin Road.

Firefighters responded at 1:05 p.m. and found flames coming from the apartment. They were able to get a woman and a child out and transport them to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with serious injuries.

A Fayetteville Police Department spokesperson said Monday that the woman, 35-year-old Porsha Quarles, later died from her injuries.

The 1-year-old girl remained in critical condition.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation. Investigators said they do not suspect foul play.
