KNIGHTDALE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man was killed and another was injured in a head-on collision Saturday overnight in Knightdale, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said.

Troopers were called to the 500 block of Bethlehem Road to a two-vehicle deadly crash just after midnight.

A witness reported that a 2010 Honda Civic driven by Jaime Flores Valdez, 19, attempted to pass in a no-passing zone and collided head-on with a 2013 Ford Econoline Van.

NCSHP confirmed with Eyewitness News that Valdez was pronounced dead at the scene, while the van's driver, Richard Winn Varnum, was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh for treatment.

Improper passing, speeding, and careless and reckless driving as contributing factors. Impairment was not suspected.

No charges have been filed, and the crash was not related to a pursuit.
