Communities see areas of flash flooding after strong storms move through
RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Heavy rain on Friday brought flooding to some areas across Central North Carolina.
In Johnston County, emergency crews were working through the evening in to repair a dam that burst in the town of Four Oaks.
Officials closed the roads leading up to the area where the dam is located.
Restaurants, shopping centers, and neighborhoods in Harnett County also saw flash flooding on Friday evening after strong storms moved through the area.
Following some scattered storms Thursday, the front lingered on Friday, increasing the risk of heavy rain and flooding specifically in the Triangle and areas to the south.
Most areas saw rain late afternoon into Friday evening.
A thunderstorm moved through Durham and nearby areas in the early evening.
Rainfall is forecasted to continue overnight, with rates of up to two inches per hour possible.
Wayne County is under a Flash Flood Warning through 12:15 a.m.
Relief from heat
This weekend, temperatures will drop to the mid-80s with lower humidity. While a few spotty showers are possible early Saturday, it will be a great weekend to enjoy September-like air.
Next week, temperatures will slowly warm, but highs will remain below average. Rain chances are expected to return by mid to late week.
