
RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Raleigh police officer collided head-on with a wrong-way driver on South New Hope Road overnight.
At 3:13 a.m., the officer saw a wrong-way driver in a white BMW.
The officer changed lanes to try and avoid a crash, but the BMW driver hit him head-on.
The driver tried to flee the scene, but the officer took him into custody after a chase on foot.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
That officer was not hurt, but the other driver was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
Izayaih Xzayvin Cooper, 20, is facing multiple charges including eluding arrest with a motor vehicle and reckless driving to endanger.
A part of New Hope Road was closed while investigators gathered evidence, but has since reopened.
