North Carolina trooper dies in single-car crash

ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- An on-duty North Carolina trooper died in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on NC-130 when Master Trooper Stien Davis, Jr. lost control of his patrol car, veered off the road, and overturned in a swampy area.

The crash details are currently under investigation.

Master Trooper Davis, a graduate of the 141st Basic Patrol School, served with distinction in Robeson County and across the state.

Governor Josh Stein said on X: "My heart goes out this morning to the family of Master Trooper Stien Davis, the NC State Highway Patrol, and the entire law enforcement community mourning the loss of a son, a friend, and a colleague."
