WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WTVD) -- No charges will be filed in a stabbing at a Winston-Salem high school that left one student dead and another injured.
Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough said school resource officers at North Forsyth High School sought assistance shortly after 11 a.m. on Tuesday, calling for an "all hands on deck."
"We responded to an altercation between two students," Kimbrough said at a news conference, and he added that "there was a loss of life."
In an email to families and staffers, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Don Phipps said one student died and another was hurt.
Kimbrough did not take questions at the news conference, citing the ongoing investigation. Authorities in Forsyth County now say no charges will be filed in the case.
The district attorney said the 16-year-old student who died is the person who took the knife to school Tuesday.
The other 18-year-old student was injured while defending himself.
The DA says the teens were friends.
