Pedestrian killed in Raleigh hit-and-run on New Bern Avenue

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Raleigh police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run involving a pedestrian Friday night on New Bern Avenue.

Officers responded around 9 p.m. to the 3100 block of New Bern Avenue, outbound near the Wake Inn, for a reported crash involving a pedestrian.

The pedestrian has been identified as 54-year-old Nicole Shawnette White.

According to a preliminary investigation, White was attempting to cross the roadway outside of a crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle. EMS crews found her in the roadway and took her to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Police said the driver did not remain at the scene. Investigators are working to identify and locate the vehicle involved.

The crash remains under investigation.
