Person in wheelchair dies after getting hit by car on Glenwood Avenue

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A 41-year-old man in a wheelchair died Thursday after being hit by a car on Glenwood Avenue, according to Raleigh police.

Officers responded at 2:44 a.m. to a crash involving a pedestrian near Glenwood Avenue and Hilburn Drive.

Police identified the victim as Matthew B. Robinson.

According to a preliminary investigation, a driver in a gold 2018 Infiniti Q60 was traveling inbound on Glenwood Avenue when the vehicle struck Robinson. Investigators say Robinson was in a wheelchair and sitting in the left lane, about 87 feet from a crosswalk in an unlit section of the roadway.

Robinson died at the scene.

Police said the driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. No charges have been filed at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.
