More complaints to ABC11 about Raleigh sunrooms company

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- New details have emerged in a Troubleshooter investigation into a Raleigh company accused of taking thousands of dollars for all-seasons sunrooms and failing to complete-or even start the work.

More homeowners are now coming forward, saying the same company took large deposits, left projects unfinished, and has yet to issue refunds. Now, those customers say they want their money back and accountability.

Cary homeowners Leann Simpson-Tarokh and her husband, Saeed, wanted to convert their back porch into an all-seasons sunroom. The couple hired Four Seasons Sunrooms of Raleigh in June of 2024 and signed a contract for $81,000. Simpson-Tarokh says the owner told them, "We can do this. We can get it done quickly. No problem."

The start date was scheduled for December of 2024, but the couple says that never happened. Simpson-Tarokh says, "We started having delays and delays and delays."

Work eventually began in April of 2025. The couple says they paid more than $72,000 to Four Seasons Sunrooms of Raleigh with the promise that the job would be completed by July of 2025. Instead, Saeed says, "The work wasn't being done."

To date, the job remains unfinished, and the couple reports issues with the work that has been completed. They showed ABC11 Troubleshooter Diane Wilson several issues. Simpson-Tarokh said, "This is water damage. Right here, there's leakage through here. There's a leakage by the door."

In addition to water damage, the door installed by the company leading to the backyard is very difficult to open. The couple says they now have to go out their front door to access their backyard.

They are not alone. Wilson first told you about problems involving Four Seasons Sunrooms of Raleigh in November. One customer, Candace, said, "They never sent a crew. Never sent any materials. Never sent anything. Never texted. Never called." She paid more than $40,000 to the company in 2024 and says no work has been done. Candace told Wilson, "I'm not going away. It was too much money to just walk away from. I will stay until I've been fully refunded."

Bob Gustavson of Four Seasons Sunrooms of Raleigh told Wilson the company would refund her money and sent a $10,000 check, along with a note promising the rest of her deposit as soon as possible. In an email to Wilson, the owner said the primary reason the work did not start as expected was due to a significant and unforeseen shortage of skilled laborers. He also cited significant material price increases and increased freight delivery costs. Gustavson said the company was losing money on each job and that an insufficient crew size further worsened delays. He added, "Please be assured that we are not thieves; we are a small company currently navigating through some challenging times. We sincerely regret that this situation has unfolded and are trying our hardest to rectify it as quickly as possible."

Wilson has also heard from other customers across the Triangle with similar complaints. An Apex couple says they paid Four Seasons Sunrooms of Raleigh more than $25,000 to get started on their project a year ago and still have no work completed. A Fuquay-Varina homeowner says she paid $8,000 to begin her project in March of last year. While about a day's worth of work was done, she says she hasn't heard from the company since.

The North Carolina Attorney General's Office says it has received complaints from ten customers accusing the company of taking money and failing to complete work. The North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors confirms it is investigating a complaint filed against Four Seasons Sunrooms of Raleigh.

In the latest response to Wilson, Lisa Gustavson of Four Seasons Sunrooms of Raleigh said, "Since your last email we have 3 customers not pay us the remaining balances on their projects. Those total almost $35,000. We are trying to finish the projects that decided to stay with us, despite the negative reviews. With having only 1 crew, it's taking anywhere between 3-6 weeks to complete a project, depending on the complexity of that project. This has been very hard on both of us, navigating these challenges, but we are trying our best to get everyone paid back as soon as possible."

As for the Tarokhs' project, Simpson-Tarokh says, "It's just it's a mess." The couple says they now have to pay another contractor to redo some of the work and complete the project. They say they are speaking out to warn others and hope action is taken by the North Carolina Attorney General's Office. "There is a trend in this, and this is not just one person who is complaining. There are many people. So the expectation was that the office of the attorney general to protect consumers like us," Saeed said.

We will continue to update you if homeowners who filed complaints receive refunds or if their projects are completed by Four Seasons Sunrooms of Raleigh.
