CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- UNC Chapel Hill is facing a pretty hefty fine after fans stormed the court following the winning shot in last night's game against Duke.

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today that UNC has been fined for violation of the league's event security policy at the conclusion of its men's basketball game.

"The conference's event security policy is designed to protect the safety and well-being of all student-athletes, coaches, officials and fans.

In accordance with ACC policy, North Carolina will incur a fine of $50,000 for a first offense."

Carolina Athletics Department responded to the fine saying in part:

"We accept the ACC's fine for having unauthorized people on the court before Duke and the officials could completely clear the floor on Saturday."

They went on to say they reviewed the video and believe they followed their protocols to get Duke's players and bench personnel and the game officials off the floor safely.
