There were no winners in Saturday's big Powerball drawing - but one North Carolinian came awfully close.

One Powerball ticket sold in Union County matched all five regular numbers but missed the Powerball number.

Don't feel too bad for that person - they still won $1 million with the ticket they bought at Sam's Mart on N.C. 74 East in Indian Trail, NC.

Still though...

Four other North Carolina-based tickets yielded substantial prizes, too.

Three people won $200,000. They bought their tickets at:

  • Alco, N.C. 52 North, Albemarle (Stanly County)
  • Citistop, Patton Avenue, Asheville (Buncombe County)
  • East Havelock Fuel Market, East Main Street, Havelock (Craven County)

Another person won $50,000 with a ticket bought at Sheetz on Glenn Center Drive in Kernersville (Forsyth County).

Because no one matched all six numbers, the jackpot for Wednesday's drawing has swollen to about $650 million. If won, it would be the second-largest Powerball jackpot ever awarded.

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292 million. Four times North Carolina players have had jackpot luck, winning $74.5 million to $188 million.
