Inmate dies after fight inside Neuse Correctional Institution in Goldsboro

GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WTVD) -- Three weeks after an apparent altercation between two inmates at Neuse Correctional Institution in Goldsboro, one of those inmates has died.

Officials said 58-year-old Terry Houser, who was jailed for multiple counts of driving while his license was revoked, died Wednesday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

He was admitted to the hospital June 30 after an altercation with another inmate, 28-year-old Christopher Phillips.

Phillips has been charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury. He is currently in the Wayne County Jail.

Phillips was behind bars for felony breaking and entering.

The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating Houser's death.

The Neuse Correctional Institution is a minimum security prison facility.
