FORT BRAGG, N.C. (WTVD) -- This weekend, more than 6,000 people will participate in the world-renowned Spartan Race.
The event takes place Saturday morning in Fort Bragg's Smith Lake Recreation area. Many of the participants will be from Fort Bragg or a part of military families.
The first-ever Spartan Race at Fort Bragg will include 25 obstacles including mud, fire, walls and barbed wire. Spartan's mission is to inspire people to test their mental and physical limits and promote their robust health and wellness.
The Spartan Race will support two local non-profits. The Rick Herrema Foundation works to rejuvenate and strengthen the marriages and parent-child relationships for military men and women.
The second non-profit that will benefit from the race is Patriot Hunts, an organization that works to get wounded warriors involved in the outdoors.
