FUNNY: Photographer poses tiny superheroes in amusing scenarios
How did the team from "The Avengers" react when they found out Spider-Man would be joining the Marvel universe? They initiated him by making him wash their gear.
At least, that's how it went down in the imagination of one photographer with a pretty impressive action figure collection.
Edy Hardjo, a photographer based out of Indonesia, has been shedding new light on several beloved fictional characters by posing them -- tiny versions of them -- in scenarios you might not have ever imagined.
The finished products have a range of effects. In some the action figures seem to be posing for movie posters, while others find them in amusing, sometimes compromising positions.
Hardjo explained that, in the photos where he aimed for humor, he put the superheroes in a scenario that the audience wouldn't expect.
"The recipe is 'wrong combination,'" he told ABC. "All I do is replace the 'usual' thing with the 'unusual.'"
The inspiration for the 'usual' part comes from his everyday life, like a trip to the barber shop, Hardjo explained.
"When I was at barbershop, I suddenly have an idea what if Thor hair was cut, it should be funny to see a Thor without hair," he said. "Later I think about what if Hulk is the one that cut Thor hair?"
Hardjo has no shortage of opportunities with the characters he chooses. Though the Marvel superheroes are his most common subjects, he has more than 60 figures in all, including Mr. Bean and Tyrion Lannister from "Game of Thrones."
"I usually start with simple idea in mind, about a small scene that include 1 or 2 character, then try to include more character in the scene to make it more complex," he said of his process.
Many of the props and sets he uses are already part of the sets he owns, though he finds some of it in local shops and online, he said.
The last step is photo editing, where the final touches are put on bringing the characters to life in a new way.
Hardjo continues to post new photos on his social media pages. He's not afraid to touch adult topics for the sake of a laugh, sometimes using body humor or violence.
"I found out that sometimes even a serious thing or moment (if combined with certain act) can be funny," he said.
