The investigation began after Goldsboro police officers got a ShotSpotter alert on July 23.
ShotSpotter sensors went dark in the Bull City on December 20, 2023.
Sensors are no longer active after the city council voted 4-2 on Monday not to extend their contract
The decision was made so members can get more data about the first year's results.
The council rejected the extension request from Durham police by a 4-2 vote.
According to data from Durham Police Department, the technology has a 95% effective rate.
