More than 160 youth soccer teams from around the world are competing in Raleigh this Labor Day weekend despite the heat.
Title IX gave Brandi Chastain the chance to have the legendary soccer career that she had. But she says the work for equality is never done. "We've come a long way, but we're only scratching the surface because this 50 years feels only like the beginning right now."
"Nobody even offered a solution for her to play in her game," the girl's mother said.
Because the sports are all held outdoors, and because of NCDHHS guidelines and an updated executive order, masks will not be required.
The North Carolina FC youth program continues to grow right here in the triangle and now the program's impact is being felt in the pro ranks, with one homegrown talent making it to MLS.
The tournament -- that will feature more than 300 youth soccer teams -- comes as COVID-19 cases continue to climb across the United States.
