RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Team USA played for a chance to move into the quarterfinals of the World Cup -- for the first time since 2002 and just the third time in history.

Instead of adding a win to that story team USA is now out of the World Cup, losing to Belgium in extra time 2-1.

Triangle soccer fans cheered on the guys in red, white and blue at the London Bridge Pub in downtown Raleigh. Fans had high hopes and nerves at the top of the game.

"We get to play one of the best teams in the world and show where U.S. soccer has gone," said Michael Ruiz, one of many fans packed inside the pub.

As the game went into extra time tied nil-nil, the mood inside London Bridge Pub remained tense but optimistic.

Had the U.S. won they would have gone through to the quarterfinals, but now that honor goes to Belgium who will now take on Argentina on Saturday, July 5.
