DURHAM (WTVD) -- A crash involving a tractor trailer killed the driver Tuesday night, and shut down at least one lane of Interstate 85 in both directions in Durham County.
It happened just after 9 p.m. near the Durham Freeway when the truck hit a bridge support.
No other vehicles were involved.
The truck owned by a company in Hendersonville, NC was carrying a load of tomatoes - which scattered across the highway.
According to witnesses, the truck swerved from the center lane of I-85 North into the pillar. Kenneth Lyle Anders, 53, of Lake Toxaway, NC, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
The interstate reopened around 1:30 a.m.
