11-year-old shot in Wake County, taken to WakeMed

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Wake County Sheriff's Department is investigating after an 11-year-old was shot on Colchester Drive near Knightdale.

It happened Sunday just after noon.

Investigators said the child - who was visiting grandparents when it happened - was in critical but stable condition at WakeMed.

Other details around what happened were not released.

The child is from the Charlotte area.

Investigators say no charges are anticipated.
