Rare dust devil spotted in North Carolina
The thin cloud could be seen from blocks away.

LEXINGTON, NC (WTVD) -- A rare dust devil was spotted in Lexington, North Carolina Monday south of Winston-Salem.

Video showed the thin spiral cloud reaching high into the air near a hospital.

The National Weather Service defines dust devils as a small, rapidly rotating wind made visible by the dust or debris it picks up.

Wind speeds are usually between 30 to 50 miles per hour.
