Police say the car hit a gate blown open by the wind

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- A Huntersville, North Carolina woman is in the hospital after being impaled by a pole.

Firefighters say a gust of wind blew open a gate at Hopewell High School and the woman's car hit it as she was leaving a football game.

A pole in the gate rammed straight through the passenger side headlight, the engine compartment firewall, and then into the driver's seat.

The woman's injuries were described as serious.
