People who support the Salvation Army Angel Tree program saw a return on their investment Monday. The gymnasium at the Durham Boys and Girls Club in Durham was stuffed with toys and the happy smiles of children.Children like 7th grader Jennifer Castellano. She said Christmas in her house wouldn't be as bright without the Salvation Army.

Army workers have been very busy this year.

"402 families this year, 934 children that we are privileged to serve," said Debbie Avelin with the Salvation Army. Avelin said even with tough times, the community really stepped up this year.

"With the economy the way it is right now, I wasn't sure how the Angel Tree program was gonna go this year. But the community saw that need, and came together as one, and they helped us when we needed it," she explained.
