Sampson deputies say Mary and the boy left their house with Avellaneda on Sunday. He returned 20 minutes later without them and refused to say where they were.
Investigators say he then took off.
The boy turned up later and is now with family members. Mary Avellaneda is still missing and deputies still want to talk to Jose.
