The latest cuts come just days after IBM laid off some 2,800 employees in its software division across the U.S. and in Canada.
Workers at RTP said they were notified they'd been selected to participate in a "resource action" which is apparently the company's jargon for layoffs.
Managers met with affected workers individually to discuss their options.
The affected workers who will leave the company will be offered a lump sum of money. They're eligible for severance which includes medical & employment benefits up to 1 year based on service.
The company will attempt to find jobs within the company for affected workers. If not, they have at least 30 days to find new jobs.
