Chase reaches top speeds on Durham streets

DURHAM The chase started on I-540 in Wake County and ended near downtown Durham just before 9 p.m. Authorities say at one point, the pursuit reached 127 mph.

As the chase made its way into downtown Durham, the motorcyclist got away. Police say he was riding a yellow motorcycle and was wearing a black and red jacket.

The Durham Police Deprtment said the chase started with a traffic incident that involved the Highway Patrol..

Authorities say troopers and local police follow different procedures when handling chases.

In the case with the motorcycle, both agencies say their officers didn't violate the rules, considering the amount of traffic and the time of day.

Durham Police point out their officers remained behind the lead squad car only assisting in the event the suspect ditched his bike and ran.

No one was injured during the chase.
