Wildfire burns near high school

Fire threatened some homes and sheds near South View High School Thursday.The blaze, that apparently began as a fire in someone's yard, came within about 500 yards of the school and quickly spread through a wooded area.

Strong winds made the situation worse, but firefighters were able to bring it under control.

Numerous fire departments helped Hope Mills firefighters battle the blaze, including the Cotton Fire Department, Pearces Mill Fire Department, Cumberland Road Fire Department, and the NC Forestry Service.
