Immigration supporters pray for change

RALEIGH Organizers of the interfaith event at the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church said they want to see an end to raids and the deportation of illegals arrested on other charges.

They called on Congress and President Obama to enact new immigration policies

Specifically, they want an end to a program that allows law enforcement to check the legal status of anyone who gets arrested.

"In Wake County, they have recently deported over a thousand people and they say we're getting rid of criminals and that's not necessarily true," offered Tony Ascion with the group El Pueblo. "Some are getting deported because they are victims of crime. Some are getting deported because they are walking down the street."
