Johnston County authorities say a shooting victim was thrown from a vehicle and children witnessed the shooting. According to Johnston County officials, the incident happened in Clayton around 4 p.m. Sunday on Little Creek Church Rd. They say three children were inside one of the vehicles.

Officers say the occupants of two vehicles got into a confrontation. Shots were fired and two men were wounded. Authorities say the children were in the back seat of one of those vehicles.

One of the victims, 17-year-old Quamayne Pennyfeather, was dumped on the side of the road. An ambulance transported him to WakeMed in Raleigh.

A witness told Eyewitness News he saw Pennyfeather, in a ditch.

"The guy that was laying in the ditch did have a gun in his hand and he did have a bag of marijuana, or what appeared to be marijuana." witness Jon Chinnis said.

Authorities say they chased the vehicle containing the second shooting victim, 24-year-old Gregory Hinton,Jr., to Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield.

Authorities are looking for the second vehicle they believe was involved.

Officers contacted the family of the children who were in the car. The children were not injured.
