The N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources said that March 16-20 is designated "Fix A Leak Week" by it and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The average home wastes 11,000 gallons of water a year because of leaks. Ten percent waste 90 or more gallons a day.
Common causes are leaky toilet flappers and cheap do it yourself fixture replacements.
The easiest way to see if you have a problem is by turning off all the taps in your house and then checking your water meter to see if it's turning.
