When officers arrived at the scene, they found 70-year-old Annell Lane with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Deputies say her grandson, 17-year-old Christopher Lane is responsible for the shooting.
According to the warrants, Lane was attempting to move out the home and went into his grandmother's room. Mrs. Lanel told deputies she heard a noise and woke up to find her grandson trying to retrieve a locked safe box, containing $50, from under her bed.
She said he was on the floor holding a 20-gauge shotgun and then fired at her. Lane then ran out of the room with the box and went to his vehicle that was parked outside.
Deputies say the teen's mother chased after him and demanded the keys to his truck before calling 911. When officers arrived at the scene, Lane was still at the house.
Neighbors told Eyewitness News the teen and his mother have lived in the neighborhood since he was a small child. Authorities say Mrs. Lane has been caring for her ill husband at the home.
Neighbors say she is going to recover. According to the sheriff's office, she was taken to WakeMed but the hospital will only say that "it does not have a patient under that name listed."
