Governor announces new stimulus spending

North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue announced a new round of federal stimulus spending Friday.She said the money will be spent on 64 highway and bridge projects totally about $209 million. The projects that include Wake, Durham, Orange, Johnston, and Chatham Counties are expected to mean creating or preserving about 6 thousand jobs.

"North Carolina is leading the nation in efforts to expedite the selection of projects and get them under way as quickly as possible to get our people to work," Perdue said. "Given our current economy, it is critical that we are using our recovery money to help put people to work and create much-needed economic growth for our communities."
