The mother was shot in the elbow and a bullet grazed the 10-year-old boy's right thigh. The boy was treated and released and his mother is still recovering in the hospital.
The suspects did not take anything.
According to Orange County Sheriff's Office, there was a 17-year-old in the home during the incident, but no further information has been released.
The invasion was the second in two nights in Orange County. The other one happened Monday night in Mebane at a home on Squires Road. No one was injured in that incident.
It is not known if the two crimes are related, but authorities say they have a vague physical description of the suspects.
Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call the sheriff's office.
