According to police, McClain approached a group of people in a parking lot on the evening of Jun 20 and began firing shots into the crowd. One of the bullets struck the girl in the back of the head.
The girl survived and was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment. Police said she was an innocent victim.
McClain is charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and one count of discharging a firearm within the city limits.
He is being held under a $520,000 bond.
