All doughnut robbery suspects arrested

SPRING LAKE Cumberland County authorities say 18-year-old Angel Bonilla (pictured on the far left in the above photo) turned himself in shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

Bonilla was one of the three men wanted in Sunday morning's robbery at the Donut Connection. Ranesh Rai, 66, was killed in front of his sister and a customer who was in the store.

On Tuesday, 18-year-old Patrick King (pictured on the far right in the above photo) surrendered to homicide detectives and is being held without bond.

Police later arrested 19-year-old Luis Marquez-Lopez (pictured in the middle in the above photo) as he was trying to escape through a broken window in a vacant home on Laketree Drive in Spring Lake.

The Town of Spring Lake has been in the spotlight because of its lack of police presence.

According to the Fayetteville Observer, the town's board unanimously approved a contract with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Monday as deputies issued warrants for the suspects in the Donut Connection killing. The contract will allow county deputies to patrol Spring Lake.

Some deputies have handled law enforcement duties for the town since May, when a judge effectively stripped the police department of its remaining powers. That came after two officers were indicted and the police chief resigned.
