2nd tragedy for tree victim

GARNER Brandy Donovan, 25, spoke with Eyewitness News Thursday.

Donovan said she was a passenger in the backseat of a car driven by 32-year-old John Wolff. Her boyfriend, 21-year-old Dejuan Green, was in the front passenger seat.

As they came down Old Stage Road near Hwy 401, a huge oak tree toppled over on their car. Donovan said they saw the tree falling, but there was no way to avoid it.

"Everyone looked up and said what the "F" cause it was just coming down," Donovan recalled.

The tree crushed the roof in on the car, trapping the trio underneath. Donovan was able to beat out the back window of the car and get out. She then ran around and tried to help her boyfriend breathe.

"He had dirt and mud or whatever all in his nose. I was hollering and telling him he was going to be okay. I was getting dirt and everything out of his nose to see if it would help him breathe. He was breathing some more, but that's when the ambulance people grabbed me and wouldn't let me see any more," said Donovan.

It was no use, and he later died.

Donovan and Green had a child together, a little girl named Heaven, and Donovan is three months pregnant with the couple's second child.

She has four other children with her first husband who was killed 2 years ago returning from Wilson when his car hydroplaned into a tree.

Donovan now wonders how she'll care for six children by herself.

Why the tree fell is still under investigation. There was no wind or rain in the area at the time, so the tree may have been rotten. It appears to have been a freak accident.
