The accident happened at 1:45 p.m. when a northbound flatbed truck crossed the median and overturned in the southbound lanes.
Police said the truck was carrying a load of gray water-based paint, which spilled on the highway.
The truck driver told officers he was driving northbound on I-85 when a vehicle pulled in front of him, causing him to swerve, and strike a guardrail.
The truck driver suffered a hip injury.
