Man attacked at Falls Lake

WAKE FOREST

The Wake County Sheriff's Office says 63-year-old Kue Tai of Raleigh was attacked near the intersection of New Light and Ghoston roads in Wake Forest on Friday.

According to the Wake County Sheriff's Office, 28-year-old Jesse Shuping, of Portsmouth, VA, approached Tai and viciously beat him.

They say Tai was in the wrong place at the wrong time and was mistaken for somebody else.

"I think a little altercation had happened earlier and the gentleman that was assaulted happened to be there, he had nothing to do with it," Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said. "That's what our investigation is showing no alcohol was involved and tempers flared."

Tai is currently in serious, but stable condition at WakeMed.

Shuping was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. His bond is set at $100,000.

Authorities say it appears Shuping may actually be on probation out of Chesapeake Virginia for felony charges of eluding law enforcement.

Sheriff Harrison says the attack is still under investigation, so they're not releasing a lot of details.
