Rabid bat found in neighborhood

FAYETTEVILLE

Officials said at bat was picked up by Animal Services on Saturday, Nov. 27th. The State Public Health Lab in Raleigh confirmed the bat was rabid on Tuesday.

All pet owners are being urged to make sure their pets are vaccinated.

Authorities are telling residents that if they see an animal acting in an unusual manner to call animal control.

Cumberland County officials said residents should keep their distance from stray dogs and cats to prevent animal bites. They also say that any pet which appears to have been in a fight while outside should be handled cautiously and seen by a veterinarian.
