Witnesses said a woman driving a silver Honda Accord crossed the median and hit an oncoming SUV head-on.
Authorities say Krystal Strother was traveling west on I-540 when she lost control and over corrected causing her car to go underneath the median cables and into the eastbound lanes.
According to the wreck report, the Honda was hit by a Chevy SUV, then rotated counter clockwise and was hit in the rear by a Jeep.
Strother died at the scene. The occupants of the Chevy and Jeep were taken to the hospital.
Both east and westbound lanes of the interstate were closed, then later reopened while police did their investigation and cleared the wrecked vehicles from the road.
