Semi collides with school bus

WAKE FOREST

It happened on Capital Boulevard at Jenkins Road.

Pictures from Chopper 11 HD showed a truck hauling earthmoving equipment on one side of the intersection.

The white bus with its hood open and some damage was sitting in the median on the other side of the intersection.

Officials with Franklin County Schools say the students on the bus from Bunn Middle School in Bunn, NC were in Wake Forest for a play.

Seven students and the bus driver have minor injuries and were taken to WakeMed as a precaution.

The driver of the northbound truck told police his brakes failed at the red light. He tried to avoid a pickup truck at the intersection and the student activities bus that was turning left onto the highway.

The truck sideswiped the pickup before hitting the bus.

There were a total of 35 kids on the bus.

The case been handed over to the Motor Carrier Division of the North Carolina Highway Patrol for investigation.
