The accident happened just before 8:00 a.m.
Troopers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer driven by 22-year-old Jeffrey Tabor Post Jr. of North Hampton Drive, Cary ran off the road to the right and struck a tree.
Post was the only person in the vehicle. He was declared dead at the scene.
Troopers said speed was a factor in the crash. The investigation continues.
