Middle school teacher facing charges

SMITHFIELD, NC The teacher, 40-year-old Kimberly Ward, turned herself in to authorities in Smithfield Tuesday afternoon.

She faced a magistrate judge on multiple misdemeanor charges of providing alcohol to minors.

The Johnston County Sheriff's Office said it believes the incident happened sometime in January and the minors are Ward's daughter's friends.

Ward was a teacher at North Johnston Middle School in Micro - about 40 miles southeast of Raleigh. She resigned earlier this month.

Ward was released on a $5,000 bond Tuesday. She will have to appear again in court in April.
